Do not make this cake. It's mine. It's one of the things I'm frequently asked to bring to various family functions. If you start making this cake, it will screw things up for me and it will just become that Kahlua cake that everybody makes. People will realize it doesn't require any particular talent belonging to me and only me. So please do not make this cake. Thank you.
DON’T BRING THAT, IT’S MY SPECIALTY:
Stuff I need or needed people to always make:
- Aunt Janice Press always needs to bring her spinach salad.
- Aunt Marge McGraw always brought the baked beans, mmm.
- Grandma Bea Nelson hopefully always provided Scalloped Corn, but I have great hopes for Cousin Debbie Press to now fill in this gap.
- Cousin Melinda Woods BETTER bring the lumpia.
- Dione's supposed to bring the cinnamon rolls.
- Chuck brings the potato salad.
- Ila must have BUCKETS of gravy on hand. (The rest of the list of what I want her to prepare gets long and rhapsodizing, so I’ll stop before I embarrass myself.)
- Well, except for: There Must Be Ila’s Clam Chowder at the holidays, as I do quality control all over California year-round to make sure Ila’s is the best, and it is. Hers has just the right amount of “bite.” I’ll post that recipe when I get smart enough.
- And I would be remiss if I left out Ila and Harvey’s vegetable soup—to die for, will post that, too. Her children and grandchildren willingly expose themselves to viruses just to get sick so we can all have some. Jack says there’s a soup pump at their house, and you just fill up your bowl. Courtney, Katie, and Sedona have now been trained to carry on the tradition of knowing how to prepare this.
- Somebody, be it Mom/Marge/Linda Eichmann always brought a jello mold. It was always a little nerve racking to see if it would slide out of the mold in one piece. Marianne and I said for years the McGraw’s couldn’t have a function unless there was at least one Jello salad on the table.
Why on earth would you post a recipe and then ask that no one makes it? That is like giving a diabetic insulin and telling them not to take it. Please advise: When you are going to make YOUR Kahlua Cake? Can you ship it over night express, as we are afraid to make it. Thanks in advance. Your hungry Axe-murderer.
